Activity: Bill of Rights Crossword Puzzle

Materials: Bill of Rights crossword puzzle, wordbank page

Procedure: Read the book together. Take time to talk about the freedoms that we have in this country and what protections people in the U.S. have. Try to help students understand why these freedoms are important and how life would be different if they didn’t have these rights. Ask questions throughout the process to be sure that the student understands the concepts. Point out illustrations, timeline and captions. When you are finished reading the book, have student work on the crossword puzzle. See how much of the puzzle can be done without the wordbank. Then use the wordbank to complete the remainder of the puzzle. Check the answers with the solutions puzzle. Choose a vocabulary activity to reinforce meaning.
